Don’t Fall

Vintage Dots

Don’t Fall

Don’t fall for them
Their follies, their lies
Don’t let their trinkets
Hypnotize
I once was victim
I once was prey
It took me years
To escape, get away
They left me beaten
Weak and scarred
For years I was lost
Broken and marred
And now I see
They’re trying again
On those who don’t know
Who can’t defend
Don’t fall, don’t fall
For their schemes
Lest you fall to uncertainty

Shadow Of The Storm: An Excerpt

shadow2bof2bthe2bstorm2bby2bconnilyn2bcossette2bbook2bcover

Hi friends,

I’ve come to the end of this book and I have to say that it is really one that has been the most meaningful to me out of all the books I’ve read recently, if not ever. For those of you who are looking for your next book to read, specifically one that offers encouragement as well as intrigue, I want to share a link to where you can read a substantial except of this book. I will also be posting a book review on Monday, so stay tune 🙂

New Year Update

dots wash

I want to wish everyone a happy new year (a month late, I know :)). I hope everything is going well and everyone’s new year goals are still running strong.

I want to post yet another update on how things have been for myself. As many may know, on my last update I mentioned how my posting would be sporadic as I focus on immediate things, such as finding employment. Luckily I now have employment for the winter, which I started in December. I may not have talked about this before, but most of my employment for the past 2.5 years have been seasonal. Since leaving school, I found little to no success securing permanent employment, at least permanent employment that can provide a living wage. But nevertheless, seasonal jobs have worked out for me and I will most likely stick with them.

With this said, this has also prompted me to consider self employment. Although my first joy is writing, I know in terms of making income with it, now is not the right time. So my focus has also been on my other creative pursuits. Slowly I am working on that and even though that is unrelated to writing, I will share with you what that is when it gets off the road.

Lastly, what does this mean for Writer’s Bounty and how it will be in 2016?

Sporadic, yet again. Between work and trying to establish self employment, I won’t be able to devote as much time writing. But as a writer knows, writing happens anytime when inspiration hits, so when that happens, I will be sure to share my newest work. However, I will continue to post more from my poetry book monthly and book reviews as they come to be. I will definitely not be completely away from the WordPress community and will be reading blog posts weekly.

Thank you always for being a reader and supporter of Writer’s Bounty. You give value to my words.

Posting Update

IMG_0247

I know my posting has been quite irregular this month (and really since the summer), but the reason for this has been me getting used to working full time and now not working but having to look for employment (once again). This especially, has taken my concentration away from writing and of course, posting.

So with this said, my posting will continue to be irregular for the rest of the year I predict. I will continue to read and comment on blogs, which I love to do, but I will not post as much during this time, as I try to secure employment and get my life in balance.

As mentioned in my previous post, I will be releasing poetry from my book and new poems, as well as updates, when I can. I hope and plan to definitely begin posting regularly by next year or who knows, maybe by the end of this year.

Thank you all again and again for reading and supporting my blog 🙂 🙂 🙂

Poetry Photo Book!

22

Earlier this May, I announced that I would be releasing a poetry photo book. I envisioned great things for this book and I can honestly say that I’m happy with the results. However this is not the first time I put together and release books for sale—when I started blogging in 2012 I released 2 poetry books on Amazon, which have long since been removed. But through that undertaking and even the current one, I learned that creating a book is just a third of the work. Getting it on sale pages and marketing is the rest, which seems to be the most challenging and the least fun.

Initially, I wanted to sell my book on Apple iBooks and Amazon. However, through Blurb, I can only sell a book on one site but not the others. If I want to do so, I have to create another version for each of the other sites. If I want to sell them as an e-book, I also have to convert them and pay for that conversion. To me, it just seems like a lot of work and extra costs for something I have yet to see how it will sell. I mainly want to share my book with those who are interested above anything else.

I wanted to sell e-book versions on Amazon and Apple ibooks, and not a physical copy (Amazon), since when I looked at the costs, the book became very expensive to sell on Amazon, with the costs being past $50.00 (this is without me getting any profit).

So, I have decided to sell the book on Blurb.com alone. At Blurb, you can see both versions (coffee table book and trade book) and preview the first 15 pages. Though there is no e-book version at the moment (I will work on that), there is a pdf version available.

On my new website, I will be posting 10 of the 40 poems featured in the book. This is to give readers an idea of the theme and content of the book, but also to allow those who wish to not or can’t purchase the book to see what I have put together.

With this all said, I invite you to check out the books on Blurb.com and if you are someone or know someone who enjoys poetry and is a collector of books, this just might be the perfect gift or something to have.

Thank you everyone for your feedback regarding this endeavor and support 🙂

New Website!

IMG_0247

I’ve mentioned this throughout the summer in my monthly updates, but I’ve been working on building a new website and I’m glad to say that it is here.

Why Create A New Website?

Since I started blogging in late 2012 (first through Weebly, then WordPress), I wanted to create a professional platform where I could showcase and market my work and sort of have an online portfolio. Being new to blogging and managing a website, there were many things I had to learn to get to where I am today. Although this website will be seeing updates in the near future (such as getting an author photo and logo), I believe it is good to go.

What About Writersbounty.Wordpress.com?

My old website will still be up for a while, but eventually I will retire it. For now it will serve as a place to link my new posts to my new website. Some old posts will remain and will possibly be transferred over to my new website. Some posts have already been transferred and you will know this by the direct link that is  in place of the original post.

I want to thank everyone infinitely for supporting my work and blog. I welcome you to visit my new website at http://www.WritersBounty.com and also welcome any suggestions you may have 🙂

***Update***

http://www.WritersBounty.com is no longer available. I decided it was best to keep my blog where it is currently at on WordPress.com. I am in the process of updating the website for another venture, which I will announce in the future!

I’m Now On Instagram!

If you follow me on Twitter you may know that I just started an Instagram account. It’s something I wanted to do for a while, but kept putting it off, and for some reason, I thought it would be difficult to set up. But anyways, I was able to start a new account with no challenges and wanted to officially announce to my fellow bloggers and readers on WordPress. I invite you to visit my page, where I will be posting photo art and quotes. Of course, there will always be the occasional random posts too 🙂

The link to my page is https://instagram.com/c_a_barnes/

Also, if you have a page on instagram, feel free to let me know!

Monthly Update: July

Artist's Tools 4

I didn’t post a June Monthly Updates, but actually, between June and July, my activities remained pretty much the same. My weekly posts were not consistent as I would have liked, but with struggling to create a balanced system between work and activities, it was not as easy as I thought. Nevertheless, I know I will improve eventually and find a system of posting regularly.

In regards to the poetry book, after hearing helpful advice from fellow bloggers and people here on WordPress, I decided that I will share half of my poems from the book when it is released. I believe it will give people the chance to know what this book is about and see if they like it for themselves. It will also allow more people to view my book who may not have the chance or choose to purchase the book. In the end, I would rather share my work with others above anything else. As I mentioned in a previous monthly update, I plan to release the book hopefully before the end of the summer. The reason now for its delay is because I’ve been working on another major thing…

Updating my website. Ever since I started blogging in 2012 (starting with Weebly), I wanted to have a professional website, where I could not only share my work, but have a platform to market my work. Of course I could do those things with the website I have now, but I wanted more flexibility in design and features. Anyways, that is what I’ve been working on in the month of July and will continue to do so through August. I hope to launch the website by September, which is the same time, I also hope to release the poetry book.

In regards to my current wordpress.com site, I will keep it going, probably linking posts from my new website. However, it that becomes impractical, I may move entirely to the new website. Right now, everything is a work in progress and I will definitely keep you posted 🙂

Monthly Update: May

Artist's Tools 4

Another month has flown by. Well, at least for me. This month, my blog posts slowed down a little because I started another job, which requires me to travel 4 hours in total each day. It may not make sense why I would take such a job that consumes basically my entire day and is 5 days a week, but it’s a temporary job that will last until October. And the assignment is ideal, which has always been a struggle for me when it comes to finding work.

So with that said, that is why my posts have been far and few in the last 2 weeks. I will make it my plan to post at least 2x a week for the summer, possibly posting on Mondays and Saturdays.

Another thing that did not come to pass this month was releasing my poetry book. On my April monthly update, I announced that I would be releasing a poetry book for sale in May. Getting a little ahead of myself, I did not anticipate the time I would need to get proofs, get them on selling platforms, and even develop a marketing plan. So upon realizing that, I knew I would need more time before actually posting them for sale. I now plan to release the book sometime in the summer.

At this point, I am sort of at a crossroads on where I want to go or how I want to market this poetry book. I definitely will create the books, but I’m also thinking about sharing some of the poetry on my blog. There are 7 of them that have been released before which I revised that I will most likely share, but I was thinking about releasing excerpts or portions of my favorite poems (as quotes) on my blog. Would that be a good idea?
